Man dies in collision

PALERMO An unidentified 40-year-old man died in a head-on crash near the crest of a hill on a gravel road six miles north of Palermo Thursday at 11 a.m., according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Jacob Mader, 20, Palermo, was driving a 2006 Dodge 3500 pickup truck north on the road when he saw a southbound 2005 Dodge 1500 pickup truck cross the center of the road. Mader reportedly took defensive action by driving to the right, but the vehicles still collided.

The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene and Mader was transported by ambulance to a hospital in Stanley to be treated for injuries he suffered in the crash.
