Alma Hove, 92, of Tioga, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at Tioga Long Term Care. Friends may sign the online register book and give their condolences at (www.fulkersons.com). Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at First Lutheran Church in Tioga. Pastor Sandra Anderson will officiate and interment will be in United Cemetery, Tioga.
Alma Hove was born Aug. 10, 1921, to Math and Mathilda (Fallet) Iverson, on the family farm in Farmvale Township, south of Tioga. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. She attended rural schools and graduated from Tioga High School. During World War II she moved to Seattle, Wash., to work at Boeing Aircraft as part of the war effort. Alma returned to the family farm, where she helped her brothers.
On Nov. 25, 1950, Alma was united in marriage to George Hove. The couple lived in Columbia Falls, Mont., where her children were born. The family also lived in Albany, Ore., for a time, later returning to Tioga, where they farmed north of town. George passed away in 1984, and Alma continued to live in Tioga until 2009, when she entered Tioga Long Term Care.
Alma was the perfect example of a quiet, gentle and trustworthy caregiver. She loved tending to her flower gardens, the family pets, and to grateful stray cats that were mysteriously attracted to her door. But most of all, her entire family could always count on her loving encouragement and support throughout the ups and downs of their lives. She was devoted to her family and her three grandsons; “her boys” as she called them, were the light of her life. Her famous chocolate chip cookies, available to whoever stopped by, symbolized her warm and nurturing personality and her ability to soothe every hurt or even to turn the most casual visit into a special occasion. Alma enjoyed traveling to any place, as long as she was with her family.
In her last years, Alma resided at the Tioga Nursing Home. She loved the staff there, which she called “the Girls.” Her family is very thankful for the care that was provided to her these past years.
Alma is survived by: her son, Brian (Kathy) Hove, of Tioga; daughter, Celeste (Jim) Knudsen, of Minot; three grandsons, Kevin (Jenna) Hove, and Jason Hove, both of Tioga, and Collin Knudsen, of Minot; sister-in-law, Alice Iverson; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; brothers, Philip, Oscar, Ingman, Almer, Art, Marvin and Milo; sisters, Mildred McKay and Ragna Simpson; sisters-in-law, Martha, Esther, Doris and Mabel; and brothers-in-law, James McKay, Jim Simpson and Haakon Hove.
Friends may call at Fulkerson Funeral Home in Tioga today, Dec. 28, from 10 a.m. to noon, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
