Top stories of 2013 – No. 6: Star power in western N.D.

Co-Minot Daily News players of the year Kolton Larson and Mason Kramer headlined a star-studded senior class of western North Dakota prep football players in 2013. The Minot High and Bishop Ryan standouts, along with Hazen’s Austin Cieslak and Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn’s Hunter Braaten, garnered senior athlete of the year honors in their respective classes.

Larson and Kramer led the Magicians and Lions to the state semifinals in the same year for the first time since 2007.

Cieslak, a first-team all-state lineman, played a major role in the Bison’s second straight Class A title. He posted 48 tackles and five sacks.

Braaten, a two-time 9-man all-state quarterback, finished his career with more than 7,000 all-purpose yards, including 3,788 during his senior campaign. He led the Sioux to two straight Dakota Bowl appearances.
