Margaret Winifred Junkert, 88, of Duluth, Minn., and formerly of Minot, N.D., died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, in hospice care at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in Hermantown, Minn.
She was born May 8, 1925, at Willow City, N.D., the daughter of Adolph and Winifred (Guthrie) Erdman. She was raised and educated at Riga, N.D., and graduated from Minot Model High School in 1942. Margaret attended Minot State Teachers College and graduated with a music education degree in 1945.
Margaret taught music at Minot and Napoleon, N.D., Tucson, Ariz., and Maxbass, N.D., prior to her marriage to Robert Junkert from 1950 to 1973. They lived in Valley City, Minot, Eau Claire, Wis., and Duluth, Minn., prior to her moving back to Minot in 1981. She founded the Duluth Boys Chorus in 1963 and served as its coordinator from 1963 to 1980. She returned to Minot in 1981 and had lived there until moving to the Duluth area in 2011 to be nearer to her family.
Margaret was a member of the Minot Model Alumni Association and enjoyed spending time in her garden.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lehre, Alfred, Vernard and Donald; and sisters, Elinor, Irene and Jean.
She is survived by: her sons, Mark Junkert (Cathy Ingle), of Boise, Idaho, Scott Junkert (Becky Urbanski), of Hermantown, Minn., and Kent Junkert (Donna Rouse), of Richardson, Texas; grandchildren, Nathan and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Hannah Rose and Joseph Matthew; and several nieces and nephews.
At Margaret’s request, her body will be donated to the University of North Dakota Anatomical Gifts Program, Grand Forks.
No formal services have been planned.
