Eugene Norsby

Eugene Norsby, 88, Minot, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, in a Minot nursing home.

Eugene was born Feb. 22, 1925, a son of George and Katherine (Fitchner) Norsby in Wolseth. He was raised and educated in the Deering and Wolseth area.

Eugene was drafted into the Army on Oct. 6, 1943. He proudly served his country, receiving the Phillippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon and the Purple Heart award. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 10, 1945.

Eugene was united in marriage to Sharon Jellum on June 2, 1957, in Deering. The couple made their home in Minot, where Eugene worked for various construction companies. He spent the last 25 years of his career with Minot Paving, retiring as an equipment operator in 1987. Sharon passed away April 28, 2003. Following her death, Eugene continued to live in Minot.

Eugene was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, taking care of his dogs and playing cards.

Eugene in survived by: son, Larry Norsby, Minot; sister, Irene (Robert) Crater, Bend, Ore.; sister-in-law, Joanne Webster, Minot; brother-in-law, Hugh (Shirley) Jellum, Tarpin Springs, Fla.; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Eugene was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Sharon; an infant son, Andy Eugene Norsby; three siblings, Don, Frank and Maxine.

Funeral service: Monday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Monday, Jan. 6, one hour prior to the service at the church.
