Ella Johnson

Ella Johnson, 93, Minot, formerly of rural Kenmare, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, in a Minot hospital. She was the wife of the late Alvin M. Johnson.

Ella Marie (Hansen) Johnson was born Dec. 18, 1920, to the late Soren and Minnie Hansen, at Brainerd, Minn. The family moved to the Norma area in 1923. She attended rural schools until she started high school in Mohall. Ella graduated from Mohall High School in 1936. Following high school she spent some time working in Iowa and Nebraska.

On returning home to Norma she met Alvin and they were married on Oct. 26, 1941, at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Kenmare. Ella and Alvin lived and farmed in Denmark Township for many years. There they raised their four children. They moved to Minot in 1995.

Ella was a life member of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Kenmare. While living in Minot, Ella and Alvin attended Trinity Evangelical Free Church.

Ella enjoyed reading, working with her garden and flowers, and doing needlework. She and Alvin also enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren in Pennsylvania and Montana and with family and friends throughout the United States.

Those who shared in Ella’s life are: her four children, Carmin (Barry) Daryman, Jacobus, Pa., Adele (James) Haaland, Berthold, Gail (Marcus) Elser, Ennis, Mont., and Allen (Velinda) Johnson, Hanover, Pa.; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Daryman, York, Pa., Kathleen Daryman, Salida, Colo., Jerome Haaland, Wray, Colo., Arlyn Haaland, Berthold, Sherry (Shawn) Walker, Fort Collins, Colo., Jeffrey (Yana) Elser, Bozeman, Mont., Julie Elser, Fort Collins, Colo., Alex (Carly) Johnson, Baltimore, Md., and Anthony Johnson, Spring Grove, Pa.; great-grandsons, Adler Haaland, Aiden, Isaiah, and Ezra Johnson, and Levi Walker; sister, Edith Maginal, Albuquerque, N.M.; sister-in-law, Kathryn Hansen, Minot; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ella was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Alvin; parents, Soren and Minnie Hansen; brothers, Ervin Hansen and Elwyn (Audrey) Hansen; sister, Ethel (Christian Mahlum and Victor Love); brother-in-law, Harold Maginal; and a grandson, Kevin Elser.

Funeral: Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Kenmare.

Visitation: Friday, Jan. 10, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home in Minot.

Burial: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Kenmare.
