Gary Frye

Gary Frye, 76, Minot, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Gary Arnold Frye was born July 29, 1937, the son of Godfrey and Verbena (Talley) Frye, in Minot. He was raised on the family farm near Deering and educated in the Deering area and later in Minot.

As a young adult, he worked on various farms in the area, worked in construction, and at a Minneapolis hospital.

Gary married Barbara A. Norby on Dec. 6, 1969, in Watford City. They made their home in New Town, Williston, and in Sioux City, Iowa. In the early 1970s, they moved to Roosevelt, Utah, where Gary worked in the oil field industry. They later moved back to Williston, where he continued working on oil rigs. He then worked as a pipe inspector for Guardian Inspection Pipe Co. until retiring in the late 1980s. In 1988, they moved to Minot to be closer to family.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Minot.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, Western novels, circle word puzzles, cribbage, playing cards and playing pool. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

His loving family includes: wife of 44 years, Barbara, Minot; daughters, Christine (Tim) Nasers, Minot, and Kimberly (John) Bales, Cibolo, Texas; grandchildren, Luke Nasers, and Paige, Ashton, and Wyatt Bales; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Verna Swenson; sisters, Inez Allen, Bernice Johnson, Nadine Pierson, Bertha Flaten, and Dorothy Stebleton; and brothers, Orville, Harvey and Roy Frye.

Cremation has taken place.

Memorial service: Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.

Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the register today, Jan. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
