Vergil Dufner

Vergil Hubert Dufner, 86, Minot, passed away Jan. 21, 2014, in a Jamestown hospital.

Vergil was born July 2, 1927, in Lansford, the son of John and Susan (Straub) Dufner. He was raised on the family farm in Renville County and attended country school at Muskego #1. Vergil’s mother passed away when he was a teenager. He worked in the Ruthville area as a young man.

Vergil married Emily Kraft on June 21, 1949, in Minot. He farmed in the Lansford area before moving his family to Heimdal, where he farmed until 1985. Vergil worked on various construction crews throughout the years. He moved to Burlington in the early ’90s and enjoyed his retirement years, but could never stop working. He always had projects going.

He enjoyed the outdoors; farming, horses, people watching and eating, especially ice cream. Vergil liked to attend auction sales, steam threshing shows, raising and releasing game birds, and was a conservationist in every way.
