Bemidji State lands Yanosko

On Thursday evening, Minot High senior quarterback Alex Yanosko announced via Twitter his oral commitment to Bemidji State.

A first-team all-state selection as a junior, Yanosko missed all but one half of his senior season. Yanosko tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during the second quarter of the Magicians’ season-opening win over West Fargo on Aug. 30.

He said his knee is healing well and expects to jockey for playing time immediately.

“I’m going to be able to compete for the starting job in the fall,” Yanosko said. “If all goes well I’ll be the starter as a freshman.”

The 6-foot-2, 212-pounder also received interest from Concordia-St. Paul, University of Mary, Minot State University and a number of junior-college programs.

Yanosko will provide Bemidji State with a dual-threat talent. In 2012, he ran for 957 yards and 16 touchdowns and passed for 545 yards and five scores.

“They have a winning tradition and they have some pretty good recruits coming in,” Yanosko said. “I’m just excited to be a part of it.”
