CARPIO – June Gronberg, 91, Minot, formerly of Carpio, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at a Minot hospital.
June was born June 5, 1922, in Plain Township, Renville County, to Carl and Inga (Rosten) Johnson. She grew up in that area and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church, which later became Carpio Lutheran Church. She attended elementary school at the Peterson Rural School and graduated from Carpio High School in 1940. June attended Minot State Teachers College. Her teaching years were spent in Burlington, Minot, and Carpio, and Glenwood, Minn.
On June 24, 1949, June married Clifford Dahlseng, of Starbuck, Minn., at St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Carpio. Following their marriage, they farmed for several years east of Carpio. She was the clerk of the Carpio Public School District for 31 years. Clifford passed away March 1, 1989.
On June 6, 1992, June married Warren Gronberg, of Glenwood, Minn. They continued to live on the farm, where they enjoyed working in the yard and maintaining their many acres of trees. In April of 2008, they moved to the Wellington Assisted Living and later to Trinity Homes, both in Minot.
June was also a lifetime member of Carpio Lutheran and active on most church boards as well as serving on Conference and District organizations. She was one of the first women to serve as Congregational President of Carpio Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school and was active in the Carpio Lutheran Church Women and the church choir along with other musical groups. She was well-known for her singing voice throughout the area and sang at many funerals. She also served on the FHA (Rural Development) Board.
Family: June is survived by her husband, Warren; stepdaughters, Bonnilyn (Garland) Smith, Galesville, Wis., and Susan (Dan) Schmidt, Minneapolis, Minn.; stepson, James Gronberg, Ashland, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Ione Johnson, Renton, Wash., and Ardella Johnson, Minot; as well as many nieces and nephews.
June was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Clifford; and brothers, Sander, Ernest, Carl, and Paul Johnson; and stepson, Paul Gronberg.
Funeral: Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at 2 p.m., at Carpio Lutheran Church, Carpio.
Burial: St. John’s Cemetery, Carpio, in the spring.
Visitation: Friday, two hours, prior to the service, at the church.
