YMCA gets grant for fitness park
BISMARCK The Minot Family YMCA will receive $45,000 for a community outdoor fitness and environmental park from North Dakota’s new Outdoor Heritage Fund. The park is to be built next to the YMCA in southwest Minot.
The North Dakota Industrial Commission approved the grant Thursday, along with 16 other projects recommended by an advisory committee. The commission awarded $5.8 million of the $30 million appropriated by the Legislature for the biennium from oil and gas production tax revenue.
The largest grants awarded were $1.9 million to the state Game and Fish Department to enhance fish and wildlife habitat on private lands and $1.8 million to the nonprofit North Dakota Association of Conservation Districts for a statewide tree-planting initiative.
Four more grant rounds are scheduled for the remainder of the biennium. The next application deadline is April 1. The commission has stated that certain projects will not be considered in the future except in extenuating circumstances, such as funding for staffing, annual maintenance, feasibility studies, projects that have already been completed, paving for roads and parking lots and research.
