Bernice Keller

Bernice Keller, 86, Minot, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at Brentmoor Assisted Living in Minot.

Bernice S. Smith was born Nov. 1, 1927, in Sherwood. She was the youngest of 11 children born to Joseph and Anna (Grossmann) Smith. She was raised on the family farm near Sherwood and educated in Sherwood. Bernice’s mother passed away when Bernice was 10 years old. As a young adult, she helped her father operate the farm and worked odd jobs to help support her family.

Bernice married Austin H. Keller on June 3, 1948, in Sherwood. They lived in Sherwood for a short time before making their home in Minot later that year. She worked as a housekeeper for various families in Minot. Later on she and her husband cleaned various businesses in Minot. Austin passed away March 31, 2000. Following her husband’s death, she continued to reside in Minot. In August 2013, she moved into Brentmoor Assisted Living in Minot.

She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Minot, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She enjoyed playing Bingo, baking, reading, gardening, and her flowers.

Surviving family includes: son, Allen Keller, Minot; daughter, Sherrie (Bill) Moths, Spearfish, S.D.; grandchildren, Justin Keller and his fiancee, Lexi Ehling, Amber (Josh) VanLaecken and Travis Moths; great-granddaughter, Isabella Keller; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Anna; husband, Austin; and brothers and sisters, Mayme, Leo, Conrad, Dora, Carl, Sirleen, Evelyn, Jerome, Sylvester and Helen.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Today, Jan. 31, from 3 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Vigil prayer service: Today at 5:30 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials: Are preferred to Our Lady of Grace Food Pantry, Minot.
