Eldon Strand

Eldon J. Strand, 70, Minot, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, in a Minot hospital.

Eldon James Strand was born on Sept. 8, 1943, a son of Elmer J. and Minnie C. (Sundt) Strand, in Minot. Eldon attended Grover Grade School through the eighth grade, then attended Tolley High School, graduating in 1961.

In the fall of 1961, Eldon enlisted in the Navy. He was in boot camp in San Diego and was stationed aboard the USS Midway (CVA-41) aircraft carrier. Eldon proudly served four overseas tours before his honorable discharge in October of 1967. Following his discharge he worked for the Boeing Company in Seattle. In 1975, Eldon returned to Mohall and worked for Koch Oil. In the 1980s he began working for Notbohm Motors of Mohall and Miles City, Mont., and worked for the company until September of 1999.

On Feb. 14, 1996, Eldon was united in marriage to Corinne Engelhard in Miles City, Mont. They lived in Miles City until 1999, when they moved to Minot. In October of 1999, Eldon continued his career in sales at Ryan Chevrolet, where he was currently employed at the time of his death.

Eldon was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot, served on the Mohall Ambulance, and was a member of Mohall American Legion Post #52. He enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking, and spending time at home. He enjoyed visiting with people and spending time with his grandchildren. What people will miss are his birthday greetings, songs, phone calls and his overall sense of humor.

Eldon is survived by: wife of 18 years Corinne, Minot; children, Timm (Karla) Strand, Danville, Calif., Boyd (Nicole) Strand, Minot, Ned (Tracy) Strand, Minot, Warren (Lanae) Strand, Fessenden; 10 grandchildren, Alex (Kyle) Hennix, Ben Rogelstad, Caleb Rogelstad, Lucy Strand, Trey Strand, Libby Strand, Cooper Strand, Toby Strand, Melayna Strand, Teegan Strand; sibling, Kenny Strand, Mohall; aunt, Donna Strand, Minot; nieces and nephews, Lavonna, Gary, Cheryl, Michael, Kevin, Kent, David, Travis, Tiffany and Kyle; special cousins, Darla (Leon) Zeltinger, Minot, Kristine (Bill Dunkel) Strand, Minot; mother-in-law, Audrey Engelhard; in-laws, Curt (Debi) Engelhard, Kim (Bruce) Bloms, Tige (Ardel) Engelhard, Colette (Jerry) Cunningham, Char (Kerry) Ulberg, Connie (Jim) Vendsel; and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Minnie Strand; uncle, Ordean Strand; siblings, Marlyce Berlin, Donald Strand, Helene Strand; nephew, Doug Berlin; father-in-law, Elmer Engelhard; nephew, Matt Danielson, and niece, Lindsey Cunningham.

Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.

Burial: North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, south of Mandan.

Visitation: Wednesday, Feb. 5, from noon until 3 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, and from 4 until 5 p.m., at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.

Vigil prayer service: Wednesday, at 5 p.m., at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
