Helen Huntington, 89, Minot, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at Trinity Homes in Minot.
Helen Gayle Huntington was born July 28, 1924, the daughter of Hiram and Josephine (Morgan) Huntington, in Tagus. She was raised and educated in Tagus and graduated from Tagus High School in 1943.
Following her high school graduation, she attended Minot State Teachers College, where she received her standard teaching certificate. She began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse near Tagus. She then taught in Stanley for a time, before moving to Minot, where she taught at Washington Elementary. During this time, she furthered her education and later received a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education and a minor in speech at Minot State College. She retired from teaching at Washington Elementary after 32 years.
She had been a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Minot since 1952 and had been a member of the United Methodist Women, the church’s mission committee, and had served as a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of a Minot birthday club.
She enjoyed traveling, especially to the Holy Land, praying, painting artwork, and eating out with family and friends.
Surviving family includes: her cousin, Stanley (Frances) Crume, Glyndon, Minn.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Joe Huntington.
Funeral: Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at 10 a.m., at Faith United Methodist Church, Minot.
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
Visitation: Friday, one hour prior to the service, at the church.
Memorials: Are preferred to the Faith United Methodist Church Mission.
