Johnson selected for dunk contest

Minot State men’s basketball senior forward Samuel Johnson was one of 16 players chosen Monday to compete in the 2014 State Farm Dark Horse Dunker, a bracket-style elimination competition where fans vote for the best dunker.

Johnson is averaging 12.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, and has a number of electrifying dunks this season.

“Sam is a high energy player for us,” MSU coach Matt Murken said in a press release. “He has had a very solid senior year both in the classroom and on the court. His ability to get above the rim to finish or rebound has been a part of that success.”

Johnson first-round opponent is Eastern Kentucky’s Marcus Lewis. Fans will determine the winner by voting daily on Facebook. First-round voting is now open and runs through Feb. 24.
