Jorgena Margery Olson, 89, Parshall, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at a Sioux Falls, S.D., care center.
She was born in Plaza on Sept. 16, 1924, to Olaf J. and Harriett (White) Olson. She was raised in Parshall and graduated from Parshall High School in 1942. She attended Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn., Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Minot State Teachers College in 1946.
She married Donald L. Olson on June 15, 1946, and farmed with her husband. They also owned and operated the Gambles Store and Gateway Cafe. She was a substitute teacher in Parshall until January 1970, when she started teaching full time until retiring in 1989. She returned to substitute teaching through 1999.
Jorgena was a past treasurer for the Lutheran Ladies Aid, president of Mountrail County Homemakers, Sunday school teacher, co-treasurer and secretary for Mobile Meals and private tutor for several students. She enjoyed her cats, traveling, reading and keeping in touch with her former students until Alzheimer’s took her memory but not her smile.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Parshall.
Survivors: son, Skip (Johan), Butte, Mont.; daughter, Dona Reiffenberger and Tim, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; grandsons, Jaymes Olson, of St. Paul, Minn.; Lukas Olson, of Oshkosh, Wis., and Ryan Reiffenberger, of Sioux Falls, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Donald.
Funeral: Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at 11 a.m., in First Lutheran Church, Parshall.
Visitation: Friday, Feb. 14, from noon to 6 p.m., in Langhans Funeral Home, Parshall.
Interment: Parshall Cemetery, Parshall.
