Delores Carlson

Delores Mae Carlson, 84, New Town, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2014.

Delores was born July 24, 1929, in Minot, the daughter of Oscar and Marcella (Effertz) Johnson. She was raised on the family farm near Sawyer and attended country school. She graduated from Sawyer High School in 1946.

She was married to Chester Hedahl and to this union her children, Gorden, Jeffrey and Karen were born. Following Chester’s death in 1956 she attended Minot Business College, where she graduated as the outstanding student in 1957. She then worked at Gamble Robertson Wholesale Grocery and for Bruce Van Sickle as a legal secretary.

On Aug. 30, 1959, Delores was united in marriage to Donald Carlson at Oak Valley Lutheran Church in Velva. They made their home in New Town, adding John and Joan to their happy family. Throughout the years, Delores worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses in New Town. She also babysat, baked lefse and was active in her children’s activities at school and church. She loved to keep busy, enjoyed baking and cooking and would volunteer her time to help whenever needed. She also enjoyed sharing her delicious baked goodies with friends and family.

An active member of Bethel Lutheran Church, New Town, she served on the ladies circle and as treasurer of the church council. She also served as the clerk of Osborne Township in Mountrail County for many years. She was an avid sports fan and loved to cheer on her favorite team, the New York Yankees. Most of all, Delores cherished spending time with her friends and family.

She is survived by: her husband, Don, of New Town; children, Gorden Hedahl (Jean Loudon), of River Falls, Wis., Karen Rohde (Brad), of Garrison, John Carlson, of Hamilton, Mont.,and Joan Weyrauch (Scott), of Glendale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Marc Hedahl (Abby), Melissa Kirkendall (Jeremy), Carrie Benson (Eric), Byron Hedahl (Dianne), Doug Rohde (Britt), Dena Rohde, Tyson Woods (Marissa), Donald Carlson, and Patrick Weyrauch; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Ken Johnson (Marcia), of Minot; sister, Kathlyn Kaye, of Bismarck; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester Hedahl; son, Jeffrey; and grandson, Kevin.

Funeral: Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at 11 a.m., in Bethel Lutheran Church, New Town.

Visitation: Thursday, Feb. 13, from noon to 5 p.m., in Langhans Funeral Home, Parshall.

Interment: Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the Silent City Cemetery, rural Keene.
