Man killed in icy highway collision
Franklin A. Mundo, 35, Williston, was killed Sunday evening in a collision on N.D. Highway 85, outside Arnegard, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Driving a 1998 Ford Taurus sedan, Mundo was leaving Arnegard toward the east at 5:52 p.m. Icy road conditions caused by a combination of rain and blowing snow caused him to lose control of his vehicle, sliding sideways into westbound traffic.
The other driver involved in the collision, Lyle S. Sasse, Vancouver, Wash., was at the same time entering Arnegard from the east in a 2011 Ford extended cab pickup truck. The truck struck the sedan squarely in its passenger side, causing significant damage to the car and killing its driver. The pickup’s driver received minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.
Both men had been wearing safety restraints at the time.
