Connie Lynn Mains

Connie Lynn Mains, 64, Minot, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, in a Minot nursing care facility.

Connie was born Dec. 23, 1949, in Stockton, Calif., a daughter of Harold and Yvonne (Ernest) Schnell. Connie’s father was a minister and her parents were evangelists throughout the country. She was a self-taught musician, playing many instruments. Through church, she met Paul Mains. He was also a minister and the couple settled in Lodi, Calif. Connie performed all of the music and was heavily involved organizing and working most of the church functions. Connie and Paul later divorced.

Connie then worked as a beautician in her own salon, before taking a leap of faith to go to work as a beautician in a nursing care facility. There, she took pride in making all of the residents, both women and men, as beautiful as possible, inside and out. She made many deep connections with the residents, often having them into her home for holidays. She had a special personality that allowed her to connect in some level with everyone that she met. She dearly touched many people’s lives. In March 1997, Connie suffered a stroke. For many years she was lovingly cared for by her daughters, Rachelle and Kristina. She moved to Minot 18 months ago to be near her daughter Rachelle. She resided in Trinity Homes, where she loved and was loved by many. She will be dearly missed by her daughters, grandchildren and the many who loved her throughout her life.

Connie is survived by: her daughters, Rachelle (Mike) Gutierrez-Garrett, of Minot, and Kristina (Sean) Golliher, of Elk Grove, Calif. She is also survived by grandchildren Brandon, Riley and Carter Golliher as well as Anica Chavez, Alyssa Zimny, Stephanie Brown and Zakary Gutierrez and great-grandchildren, Cailyn and Nathan. Other survivors include her ex-husband, Paul (Vicki) Mains, as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law David (Sherry) Mains, Pam Slaton and Steve (Bev) Mains, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, as well as many nieces and nephews.
