Mary Vorland, 96, Fessenden, passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.
Mary Fleming, daughter of David and Anna (Hansen) Fleming, was born Oct. 17, 1917, at Sanborn. At the age of 2, she moved with her family to a farm north of Fessenden where she was raised. She attended Fessenden High School, graduating in 1938.
She was married to Herb Vorland on Oct. 20, 1938, at Fessenden.
Mary worked as a waitress at the Conner Hotel Cafe and the local bowling alley in Fessenden. She also worked at Jordan’s Country House near New Rockford and the Town and Country Restaurant in Harvey.
Mary loved to bowl, play golf, dance, play cards and entertain. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always loved the buns grandma made.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the ALCW of Fessenden, and the Harvey Eagles Club.
She is survived by: her son, Dean (Alicia) Vorland, of New Rockford; her daughter, Sandra Weisenberger, of Fargo; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by: her husband, Herb, who passed away Feb. 21, 1994; her parents; 11 brothers and sisters; and a son-in-law, Harry Weisenberger.
Her funeral will be Monday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Fessenden.
Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Fessenden.
Visitation will be held today, Saturday, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.
