Corps taking comments on BNSF project at Berthold
BERTHOLD The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is evaluating a Department of Army permit application from Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad to construct a new track at Berthold to provide a more efficient interchange.
The application is being evaluated under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act. The project would result in the discharge of fill material into waters that are subject to Section 404, which regulates the discharge of dredged or fill material in the nation’s waters.
The project is located at the city of Berthold (Railway Mile Post 23) in Section 20, Township 156 North, Range 86 West, in Ward County.
BNSF proposes to construct a new track for the rail system using local native soil and riprap. The project would place fill into 0.82 acres of jurisdictional wetlands.
The Corps’ Omaha District North Dakota Regulatory Office is taking comments on the project. Comments must be postmarked by March 6 and sent to the N.D. Regulatory Office at 1513 S. 12th St., Bismarck, N.D. 58504. For more information contact Matthew Mikulecky, acting regulatory program manager, at Matthew.J.Mikulecky@usace.army.mil or call 255-0015.
