Coast Guard seeks comments on new Highway 85 bridge

WILLISTON The U.S. Coast Guard’s Eighth District is considering an application from the North Dakota Department of Transportation for approval of the location and plans for the construction of a four-lane bridge on U.S. Highway 85 over the Missouri River near Williston.

The new bridge would replace the existing Lewis and Clark Bridge. When the proposed bridge is completed, the existing bridge would be demolished.

The Coast Guard has the permitting authority over the proposed bridge, temporary bridges, related construction activities and bridge demolition under Section 9 of the Rivers and Harbors Act, according to N.D. Department of Transportation information.

The N.D. Department of Transportation project would involve four laning U.S. Highway 85 near Williston, from McKenzie County Road 16 to the junction of U.S. Highway 2.

The Coast Guard is taking comments on the proposed replacement bridge through March 12. Comments can be sent to: Commander, Eighth Coast Guard District Bridge Branch, Room 2, 102D, 1222 Spruce St., St. Louis, Mo. 63103-2832.
