Minot man arrested for child porn possession

James Monroe Anderson, 40, who lives in Robindale Mobile Home Park in southeast Minot, was arrested Thursday by Minot police and charged with possession of certain materials prohibited – child pornography. He is being held in the Ward County Jail on $5,000 bond.

The investigation was jointly conducted by Minot police and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigations.

According to an affidavit filed in the case, investigators linked two IP addresses, which are unique identification codes to computers connected to the Internet, that were used to download child pornography. One address was linked to Anderson’s neighbor in the Robindale Trailer Court and the other was connected to his place of employment.

When investigators made contact with Anderson’s neighbor she stated that the only people who had access to her wireless Internet connection were herself, her two teenage daughters and those occupying Anderson’s home next door. The neighbor’s former boyfriend had provided Anderson with the password.

When interviewed by police, according to the affidavit, Anderson admitted to downloading and viewing child pornography for more than 20 years and that he had downloaded the material on both his neighbor’s wi-fi connection and that of his employer.

According to Det. Dave Goodman of the Minot Police Department, undisclosed drugs and drug paraphernalia were also found in the mobile home but are believed to be the property of a different tenant. No charges have yet been filed for the drugs.
