Hazel Andreson

Hazel Andreson, 88, Norwich, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, in a Velva nursing home.

Hazel was born Oct. 6, 1925, in Wildrose, to Arthur C. and Anna M. (Schleich) Hammer. She was raised and educated in Sanish until moving to Minot, where she graduated from Minot High School in 1943. Hazel attended Cadet Nurses Training through St. Joseph’s Hospital.

On April 7, 1945, Hazel was united in marriage to Norman Andreson in Minot. They made their home on the farm located south of Norwich. She provided a good home for her children and was actively involved in school and church activities, 4-H, Norwich Lutheran Church’s Ladies Aid and a homemaker’s club.

Hazel and Norman moved to Tucson, Ariz., in the 1970s following the purchase of a motel and RV park, which they owned and operated for many years. After retiring, they moved to Wilcox, Ariz., for their winter warmth from the North Dakota cold.

Hazel remained on the farm for several years following Norman’s death in 1998. She became a resident of Dakota Terrace in Minot in 2007, living there until her move to the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva in December 2013.

Hazel leaves behind many friends and acquaintances as she was always concerned about everybody else. She will be deeply missed by all who shared in her life, but remembered in our hearts forever for the qualities that she portrayed as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

Hazel’s loving family includes: children, Dennis Andreson, Velva, Rodney Andreson, Minot and Sharon (Jim) Schmidt, Gresham, Ore.; grandchildren, Dr. Laura (Kent Bergsrud) Andreson, Grand Forks, Kevin (Tonya) Andreson, Fargo, Joel (Sharon) Schmidt, Wooster, Ohio, Eileen (Darren) LaFavor, Vancouver, Wash., John (Harriet) Schmidt, Hillsboro, Ore., Audrey (Andrew) Cook, Portland, Ore., Scott (Lauryn) Andreson, New York, N.Y., Shannon (Jason Heltner) Andreson, Minnetonka, Minn., and Eric Andreson, of Laurence, Mich.; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Judy (Jeff) Bernard, Redmond, Ore.; brother, Donald (Joan) Hammer, Wilcox, Ariz.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
