‘Welcome home’

The LaQuinta Inn & Suites in southwest Minot will be the site of the third annual welcome home Vietnam veterans party being planned for Saturday, March 29. That day is Vietnam Veterans Day.

This is the third annual celebration for Vietnam veterans being hosted by the Minot Vet Center.

Activities, both inside and outside the hotel, will run from 1 to 4:30 p.m. There will be a short program at 1 p.m.

Live music will be provided by the Dakota Rose Band whose members are Vietnam War or Vietnam-era veterans.

A ceremonial flag burning will be conducted by the Minot American Legion Post and Vietnam veterans.

A balloon release with Taps provided by the American Legion will be done at 4:15 p.m. Sixty-six balloons 22 red, 22 white and 22 blue will be released. Each balloon represents three fallen North Dakota military members during the Vietnam War.

Food and drinks are being provided by donations. The food and drinks will be on the basis of first come, first served.

Last year about 135 people, a group comprised of Vietnam veterans, family members, friends and other community members, attended the Vietnam veterans event.

The third annual celebration is “a party to welcome home Vietnam veterans,” according to the Minot Vet Center staff.

Those interested in contributing to the event can contact LaQuinta Inn & Suites at 837-900. The hotel is located at 1605-35th Ave. SW, west of the Minot Family YMCA and Sonic Drive-In.
