Coley to conduct percussion workshop

The Minot State University music division will host a workshop and recital by percussion performer, composer and educator Matthew Coley on March 10.

Coley, who serves on the percussion faculty of Iowa State University, will present a percussion clinic at 1 p.m. in Room M121, Old Main, and will perform a solo concert at 7:30 p.m. in Ann Nicole Nelson Hall. The solo program will include selections for marimba, hammered dulcimer and doumbek, as well as excerpts from a 2011 concerto by Andrew Ardizzoia for glass xylophone, glass bottles and almglocken.

A special invitation to the afternoon clinic session is extended to nearby high school and university percussionists and music teachers. The clinic and Coley’s evening solo concert are free and open to the public.

An internationally acclaimed marimba virtuoso, Coley has distinguished himself as one of the country’s most versatile percussion artists and educators, performing as a soloist and collaborator with orchestras and ensembles throughout the U.S. and abroad. His appearance at Minot State University is sponsored by MSU’s Center for Engaged Teaching and Learning.
