Body found in sleeper of burned truck
When Minot Rural Fire Department firefighters extinguished an engulfed 2001 Mack semi truck at the Pilot Flying J Truck stop in Minot, the burned body of a man was found inside the sleeper compartment.
The Ward County Sheriff’s Department and firefighters were dispatched to the location on U.S. Highway 2 and 52 West at about 12:20 a.m. and the fire was extinguished just before 12:50 a.m.
The truck was behind the building and away from the fuel pumps. No other injuries have been reported, although a nearby truck had minor damage from the fire. The fuel tanks on the semi were not damaged and the attached trailer was unaffected, according to Capt. Bob Barnard of the sheriff’s department.
Barnard added that “there’s no information available that would lead us to believe it happened under suspicious circumstances.”
The incident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s department and the Deputy State Fire Marshal.
An autopsy is scheduled for the man who remains unidentified pending notification of next of kin.
