Roosevelt Park Zoo opening day set

Officials at the Roosevelt Park Zoo announced Wednesday that the zoo will open for the 2014 season on May 3.

Nearing the end of flood recovery work, the penguin and otter exhibits will be restored this summer and again open to the public. Also, the zoo’s former education building will begin its conversion into a new aviary.

Visitor hours each day for the month of May will be from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., expanding from June through August until 8 p.m. In September through the end of its season, the zoo will resume its shorter May hours.

The zoo’s annual Easter egg hunt is scheduled to be held in advance of the new season, on April 19.
