Welcome to Minot, Class A

It was only fitting this past week when both the Minot High School boys and girls basketball teams qualified for the state tournament, considering the event will be held in the Magic City beginning today.

It’s the first time Minot has hosted a Class A basketball tournament since the North Dakota High School Activities Association changed the format to a combined boys and girls tournament. Previously, the combined tournament had been held in Grand Forks, Fargo and Bismarck, with games being played on two separate courts within one building.

This week’s tournament will be a little different: Games will be played at both the Minot State University Dome and the Minot Municipal Auditorium. Today, the boys will play at the Dome and the girls at the Auditorium. Friday, winners bracket games for boys and girls will be held at the Dome with consolation bracket games at the Auditorium. Saturday, all games will be held at the Dome.

The event will provide Minot and tournament officials the chance to feature two of the city’s outstanding venues for basketball, as well as give visitors from other parts of the state a chance to see the growth in Minot and the city’s ongoing recovery from the 2011 Souris River flood.

We welcome players, coaches and fans from across the state. Enjoy the tournament, and enjoy your stay in Minot.
