Flood emergency declared for Ward County
The Ward County Commission declared a flood emergency for the county on Friday and ordered the activation and utilization of the Ward County Emergency Operations Plan to monitor flooding, alleviate hardship and initiate appropriate relief action by county agencies.
Ward County Commissioner Chairman Jerome Gruenberg said the greatest area of concern is the southwest portion of the county. A flood emergency declaration will make it easier for flooded areas such as Rice Lake to get help with sandbagging, he said.
According to the official declaration, severe flooding is forecasted to occur due to snow fall amounts in the southwest portion of the county. High temperatures with much snow pack still present will cause a quick melt producing overland flooding in that area.
