Chavez resigns to accept Indiana position

Jerry Chavez submitted his resignation Monday as president of the Minot Area Development Corp., effective April 11. Chavez has accepted a position as executive director for Marshall County Economic Development Corporation in Plymouth, Ind.

Chavez was hired by MADC in April 2005 and has served as its president and chief executive officer for about nine years. Chavez came to Minot after serving as the vice president of marketing for the Great Falls Development Authority.

During Chavez’s time with MADC, he has helped oversee efforts to develop an energy park, agricultural park and intermodal facility, along with a workforce development program.

“Jerry has worked to bring fresh ideas to economic development in the Minot area and was instrumental in many initiatives like the Great Plains Energy Park,” Mayor Curt Zimbelman said in a prepared statement. “Minot has changed drastically the last few years and the community certainly has a lot work ahead of us with economic development and great opportunities for developing business relationships that will add to our community’s quality of life. I wish Mr. Chavez the very best in his future endeavors.”

MADC board members will begin work to develop a plan for finding its new president.
