Beavers leave Florida undefeated

CLERMONT, Fla. -Another pair of victories Wednesday afternoon gave the Minot State softball team (13-5) a perfect 9-0 record at the National Training Center Tournament, its 10th straight win overall.

The Beavers defeated Merrimack College 6-1 in the first game, followed by a close 2-1 victory over New Haven in game two.

MSU junior pitcher Mindy Loirmor continued her strong run of form, notching two more wins after pitching a combined 13.1 innings. Loirmor surrendered one earned run between both games, striking out two.

MSU jumped out to 4-1 lead against Merrimack after two innings. The Beavers later tacked on runs in the sixth and seventh to cement the win.

Game two was a much closer affair. With MSU trailing 1-0 in the top of the seventh, senior outfielder Jen Dixon delivered a two-run double to give the Beavers a one-run lead heading into the bottom of the frame, a lead which Lorimor was able to protect.

The Beavers will now travel back to Minot, where they will open their Northern Sun schedule with a doubleheader against the University of Mary at the South Hill Softball Complex. Game one is scheduled for Tuesday at 2 p.m.
