Blaze Kenny Unruh, 24, of Bismarck, N.D., formerly of Beulah, N.D., died Friday, March 21, 2014, at Trinity Health, Minot, N.D. Services will be held at 10 a.m. CDT on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, with Pastor Mary Lou Aune officiating. Burial will follow at Beulah City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, March 26, at Barbot-Seibel Funeral Home, Beulah.
Blaze was born on March 1, 1990, in Minot, to Kenny and Kimberly (Chewakin) Unruh. He was baptized and confirmed at the Beulah Congregational Church. Blaze was raised and educated in Beulah, graduating in 2009 from Beulah High School. He attended two years of college at Minnesota State University in Moorhead and two years at Bismarck State College. Blaze graduated from BSC in 2013 with honors, earning an Associate in Applied Science degree in Instrumentation and Control. He began working with Novaspect Inc. in Mandan, which is where he was currently employed.
At a young age, Blaze enjoyed participating in showdeos and roping events. He was also involved with wrestling and basketball, but especially had a love for hockey. Blaze always found time for riding his dirt bike when he was home. In his high school years, Blaze loved snowboarding, wake boarding, pheasant hunting, track and football. Blaze was a member of the National Honor Society, Phi Beta Kappa and Beulah Congregational Church.
Most recently, Blaze’s favorite pastimes included weightlifting, running, dancing, traveling, working on his car and spending time with his nieces, Caiden and Harper. Blaze was a very outgoing person, making friends wherever he went. His smile was contagious and lit up every room. “To meet Blaze, was to love Blaze.” We were truly blessed to have him in our lives!
Blaze is survived by: his father, Kenny and Bekki Unruh, of Zap; his mother, Kimberly and Todd Meier, of Beulah; his sister, Brook and Joe Knoll, of Zap; his half sister, Brittney Aanderud, of Beulah; two nieces, Caiden and Harper; grandparents, Ron and Myrna Chewakin, of Spearfish, S.D., Rodney and Arlene Unruh, of Bismarck, and Dianne White, of Henderson, Nev.; great-grandmother, Eleanor Chewakin, of Minot; his Godmother, Karla Huncovsky, of Mandan; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Blaze was preceded in death by his uncle, Loren Geiszler; and one cousin, Jessica Unruh.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to be used for the charity of the family’s choosing.
