Barbara Ranum, 89, from Stanley, died Sunday, March 23, 2014. Her funeral service is Thursday, March 27, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Our Savior’s Free Lutheran Church in Stanley. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Stanley. Visitation is today, March 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., followed by a family service at 7 p.m., at Springan Funeral Home, Stanley.
Barb was surrounded by her family and passed away at the Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley.
Pallbearers are Donald Ranum, Gerald Ranum, Kenneth Ranum Myron Ranum, Marlin Ranum and Robert Hysjulien.
Honorary pallbearers are all of Barb’s grandchildren.
Barbara was born on Jan. 20, 1925, in Thief River Falls, Minn., to Iver and Dena (Olson) Austad. Barb graduated from high school in Thief River Falls and then went on to teacher’s training and taught school for one year. It was at that time she met Oral.
She was united in marriage to Oral Ranum on April 22, 1944, in Viking, Minn. They moved to the Palermo, N.D., area in 1944 and farmed until 1952, when they moved to Stanley. They started the Stanley Laundry that they owned and operated until 1998. Oral and Barb were instrumental in establishing Our Savior’s Free Lutheran Church in Stanley. Barb was a member of the WMF at church.
From this marriage they were blessed with six children. She has 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. The highlight of her life was her kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Barb loved baking and cooking for her family. She made the best doughnuts, cinnamon rolls and bread!!
Barb is survived by: sons, Donald (Roberta), Bismarck, Gerald (Tammy), Coleharbor, Kenneth (Donna), of Stanley, Myron (Kim), Bismarck, Marlin (Cindy), of Stanley; and daughter, Ruth Hysjulien (Hod), of Stanley; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dagne Fredrickson and Mildred Austad, Moorhead, Minn., Irene Pace, Carson City, Nev., and Virginia Wappula, Hugo, Minn.; brother-in-law, Oscar Ranum (Delores), Minneapolis, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Lavonne Austad and Margaret (Delano) Lind, both Minneapolis, and Delores (Sheldon) Forland, Shawnee, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oral; brothers, Donald, Raymond, Allan, Harold and Daniel; and sisters, Agnes Dazell and Sylvia Ranum.
