Zoo holds sale to equip vets

Minot’s bargain hunters and friends of the zoo are invited to check out a rummage sale this weekend at the Roosevelt Park Zoo visitor center, in order to help raise funds for its veterinary program.

In particular, veterinary staff are looking to acquire a portable X-ray device that can be used on larger animals around the grounds. The zoo’s current X-ray machine was donated by Trinity Health, but while still usable, cannot be used outside of the veterinary facility. This means that larger animals such as the big cats and hoofstock cannot readily receive radiologic examination because they will not fit into the facility.

The funds budgeted to the program for the year are set aside for medications, vaccinations and medical procedures, so the money for additional equipment generally have to be found elsewhere.

Zoo and park staff, Greater Minot Zoological Society members and others have brought in various pieces of furniture and house items for the sale, which will not include clothing.

The sale will be held both Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
