PSC permits two 45-MW natural gas turbines
WATFORD CITY The North Dakota Public Service Commission in Bismarck has approved a siting permit for two new 45-megawatt simple-cycle natural gas-fired combustion turbines.
The turbines, owned by Basin Electric, will be constructed and operated at their existing Lonesome Creek Station, about 14 miles west of Watford City.
The Lonesome Creek Station currently consists of one 45-MW simple-cycle combustion turbine. Construction of the two new turbines will bring capacity to a total of 135 MWs. Natural gas is transported to the station by the immediately adjacent Northern Border Pipeline.
Basin expects to start construction on the new turbines in May after all necessary permits have been acquired with a completion date at the end of the year. The cost of construction is estimated at about $102 million.
