Sylvia Lucille Evenson, 91, Kenmare, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014, in a Kenmare hospital.
Sylvia was born Oct. 19, 1922, in Kenaston, the daughter of Cecil (Della) Westlake. She was raised and educated in Kenmare. She graduated from Kenmare High School in 1940. Sylvia worked as a welder at the shipyards in Tacoma, Wash. Sylvia and Warren eloped to Montana and were united in marriage on March 21, 1946. The couple returned to Kenmare where Sylvia worked as a sales clerk at Schiefer and Carlson Drug Store and later as a sales clerk at Kenmare Clothing.
Sylvia was a member of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Church Women, Kenmare VFW Auxiliary, where she served as past president and secretary, Royal Neighbors, where she held several offices, and the Kenmare Senior Citizens.
Survivors: daughter, Connie (Michael) Bennett, Kenmare; grandchildren, Casey Bennett, Kenmare, Christopher Bennett, Elliot City, Md., and Corey Bennett, Yokota, Japan; great-grandchildren, William and Sasha Bennett, Kenmare, and Sophia and Grace Bennett, Yokota; brother, Richard Westlake, Minot; sister, Joyce Westlake, Kenmare; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Sylvia is preceded in death by: her husband, Warren; son, Curtis Evenson; parents, Cecil and Della Westlake; sisters, Fern Yale and Eva Hass; brothers, Joseph Westlake and John Westlake.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Meals on Wheels or to the donor’s choice.
Funeral service: Monday, March 31, at 11 a.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare.
Burial: Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, in the spring.
Visitation: Monday, one hour prior to the service, in the church.
