Wiley Gordon Post, age 79, of Columbus, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at St. Luke’s Sunrise Care Center in Crosby.
Wiley was born on May 30, 1934, to Leo and Lilli (Dahl) Post at the Post farm south of Columbus. He attended school in Columbus.
Wiley and Barbara Boen were united in marriage on Sept. 15, 1953, at Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last summer. In the spring of 1954, Wiley moved his family to Rolla where he was a mechanic for Theel Chevrolet until 1958. After moving back to Columbus, he started his own business, Wiley’s Auto Service. He later started to work in the oil field until he pursued a new career as a lineman for Burke-Divide Electric from 1959-1972, until he was injured on the job and unable to do that work. Wiley did various jobs before he retired such as farming, managing a golf course and simulcast horse racing in Dunseith, assisting five funeral directors at funeral services in this area and working for Pool Well service.
Wiley was a member of the Portal Masonic Lodge, Columbus Fire Department and Columbus Lions where he received the honor of Lion of the Year for their district.
He became a resident of St. Luke’s Sunrise Care Center in December 2013 after he became paralyzed due to bone cancer.
Wiley was preceded in death by: his parents, Leo and Lilli Post; brothers, Leon, David, Raymond “Mike”; sister, Lelia; in-laws, Elmer and Ella Boen; and numerous family members.
Family was Wiley’s greatest asset and he loved to brag about his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by: his wife, Barbara; children, Wanda (Mike) Ely of Columbus, Gordon (Kris) Post of Grand Junction, Colo., Robin (Steph) Post of Elko, Nev., and Cyndie (Pete) Fagerbakke of Noonan; grandchildren, Christopher (Susan) Kihle of Columbus, Anna (Ricky) Marquardt of Watford City, Dustin (Chris) Post of Elko, Travis (Torie) Post of Glenburn, Tyler Post of Grand Junction, Erinn (Steve) Adam of Grand Junction, Derek (Sarah) Fagerbakke of Noonan, Jessica Fagerbakke of Seattle, Patrick (Kari) Ely of Columbus and Maria Ely of Bismarck; 12 great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; sisters, Donna Robinson of Charlotte, N.C., and Nancy Quillen of Roseville, Calif.; brother, Edwin (Bonnie) Post of Granger, Wash.; sister-in-law, Carol Post of Columbus; brothers-in-law, Harlan (Sharrell) Boen of Brighton, Colo., and Danny (Sasha) Boen of Missoula, Mont.; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be: Wednesday, April 2, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus with Pastor Janet Gwin officiating.
Burial will follow: at Norde St. Olaf Cemetery in rural Larson.
Visitation will be: Tuesday, April 1, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Stakston-Martin Funeral Home in Crosby and also one hour before the service at the church.
