MSU’s O’Keefe finishes second

ASHLAND, Neb. – Minot State junior Kowan O’Keefe carded a 7-over 78 in the final round of the Augustana College Quarry Oaks Collegiate meet Sunday and finished second overall with a two-round total of 148.

The Beavers placed third in the 10-team meet with a 625. They finished four strokes behind second-place Concordia-St. Paul and 26 shots back of St. Cloud State.

SCSU’s Devin Holmes fired a 1-under 70 in the second round to finish five strokes in front of O’Keefe to win medalist honors. Holmes was the only golfer to shoot under par in the final round.

“Monday was even more difficult than Sunday with winds gusting in excess of 40 mph,” MSU coach Randy Westby said in a press release. “We shot the second-best team score (of the second round) with a 316 and finished third by just a few strokes.”

MSU’s Nick Liebel and Casey Gleich finished among four players tied for 13th with a 15-over 157.

The Beavers tee off in the Upper Iowa University Invite beginning Sunday at 1 p.m.
