Adeline Genevieve (Johnson) Ruden, 96, of Stanley, passed away March 31, 2014, at Mountrail Bethel Home, Stanley. Her funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, April 3, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Our Savior’s Free Lutheran Church, Stanley. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Stanley. Visitation will be today, April 2, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Springan Funeral Home, Stanley.
Adeline was born Nov. 18, 1917, in Arnegard, to Adolph and Alma (Rogness) Johnson. She grew up during the Great Depresssion and along with her eight siblings had to begin working at a young age. Some of her earliest jobs included chopping wood, milking cows, working in the garden, cleaning house, scrubbing wood floors, washing clothes on a wash board, carrying water and melting snow for washing in the winter.
Adeline married Iver Ruden on May 1, 1938, in the pastor’s house in Lunds Valley. Their first home was in Grano, where Iver worked for a farmer. They lived in a variety of places until moving to Stanley in 1968. Iver passed away in 2000 and Adeline continued to live in Stanley until her death.
Adeline was a charter member of Our Savior’s Free Lutheran and a member of the church WMF.
She enjoyed baking, crocheting and working in her flower garden. Adeline’s grandchildren called her Grandma Donuts!
She is survived by: her children, Alma LeRohl, of Stanley, Erma (Francis) Franson, White Earth, Jenette (Robert) Stenehjem, of Stanley, Gary (Candice) Ruden, of Stanley, and Wanda (Richard) Hickel, Kalispell, Mont.; 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Adeline was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Iver; daughter, Debbie; her brothers and sisters; and sons-in-law, Harlow and Alvin.
