The opening reception for the James Memorial Art Center’s Community Mosaic Project will be held on Sunday, April 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. All participating artists as well as the general public and members of the James are invited. The canvases will be on display in the gallery as one unified mosaic. Throughout the course of the display, which runs for 12 weeks, each canvas is available for purchase by means of a “blind-buy,” meaning the public is invited to buy numbers at random. Each artwork is assigned a number and corresponds to the number randomly sold. At the time of purchase, the buyer will not know the name of the artist who created the artwork. The price of each canvas is $25. This year some of the funds raised through the community mosaic will be donated to Banquet West. Also, the James is offering watercolor art classes for youth and adults. The adult classes will be held Thursday evenings in the JMAC art classroom from 7 to 10 p.m. The cost of each class is $20, which includes all supplies and instruction. Students will develop artwork using the basic elements. No art experience is needed. The youth classes will be held at the JMAC art classroom from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. for grades 1 through 3. The cost is $8 per class for members and $10 for non-members. The class for grades 4 through 8 will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. The cost is $13 per class for members and $15 per class for non-members. School age classes will complete a watercolor painting at each class. The dates for the youth and adult watercolor classes are today and April 10. The instructor is Jean Tande. Registration forms are available at JMAC and distributed to all community schools, homeschoolers and the public library. For more information, call 774-3601 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. The James is located at 621 First Avenue West in Williston. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and Friday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. There is no admission charge.
