Claus Sevland

Claus Sevland, 88, Minot, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, in a Minot nursing home.

Claus was born Nov. 10, 1925, a son of Ludvig and Louisa (Tanjerd) Sevland, on the family farm north of Granville. He was raised and educated in the Granville area. On Nov. 4, 1950, Claus was united in marriage to Dollie Mae Wagar in Fairview, Mont. They lived on the Sevland homestead near Granville for more than 40 years. Following retirement, they moved to rural Minot. Dollie, his wife of 61 years, passed away July 27, 2012. Claus continued to live in Minot.

Claus spent most of his time over the years working outside or in his shop. He enjoyed farming, raising cattle and gathering eggs from his chickens, working with his team of horses, Pat and Beauty, and most of his time gardening with his wife. Claus was also very talented with woodworking and had a huge passion for collecting antiques. He drove the Granville school bus for many years, enjoyed taking his family on wagon trains, fishing trips and was also proud to work at Minot Livestock for numerous years.

Claus was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, neighbor and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Claus is survived by: sons, Lewey Sevland, Minot, Willy Sevland, Granville; daughter, Lois Sevland Frey, Minot; grandchildren, Jeanie (Jerry) Steen, Jon (Heather) Sevland, Jerry (Chasity) Sevland, Jeffrey Sevland, Jacob Sevland-Voight, Jackie Sevland-Voight, James Voight, Dustin Frey, Lynsey Frey; great-grandchildren, Jasper Steen, Taylor and Hunter Sevland, Dazey, Hennie, Rovina, Freya and Viola Sevland; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Wagar and Audrey Hanson: and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Claus was preceded in death by his parents, Ludvig and Louisa; wife, Dollie; two brothers, Olav, and his wife, Gladys, Harold, and his wife, Betty, and second wife, Sheri; sister, Astri and her husband Chester Iverson; and mother- and father-in-law, Wolford and Edith Wagar; other in-laws, Orville Wagar, Alfred (Viola) Isakson, Art (Mildred) Rasch, Gay Hanson; and a niece, Donyta Rasch Barker.

Visitation: Today, April 4, from 3 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, noon until service time, at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Funeral service: Saturday, April 5, at 2 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.

Memorial gathering: Following the graveside service everyone is invited to join the family for lunch and fellowship at the Granville Community Center from 5 to 7 p.m.
