Yvonne Mickelson, 87, of Rolla, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Presentation Medical Center, Rolla.
Yvonne Ann was born Jan. 13, 1927, in Perth, to Carl and Hazel (Lawrence) Johnson. She was the third of 11 children. Yvonne attended school in Perth, graduating from high school in 1945.
Yvonne married Benhart Mickelson on Dec. 23, 1946, at Devils Lake. They lived for a time in Rolla and then moved to a farm in Mount Pleasant Township, Rolette County. They then moved to Fairview Township in Rolette County. They moved into Rolla in 1961. Ben and Yvonne were lifelong farmers in the Rolla area.
Yvonne was actively involved in many organizations. She was a charter member of the M.B.C. Homemakers Club and helped make the centennial quilt, one of the many projects for the club. Yvonne was a member of the Rolla Curling Club and Fawn Rebekah Lodge. She was also a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where she served in many capacities. Yvonne especially enjoyed making quilts for Lutheran World Relief. She loved and enjoyed her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Yvonne will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her family members and many friends.
Yvonne is survived by: her daughter, Pat (Cliff) Berndt, of Barnesville, Minn.; sons, Bill (Cindy) of Rolla, Dick (Bobbie) of Rolla, and Ken (Beth) of Fargo; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Merle Johnson, of Fremont, Neb.; sisters, Maxine Hanson, of Cando, Hazel Hoyhtya, of Kalama, Wash., Emma Kvale, of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Lucille Tabatt, of Pelican Rapids, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Ben; brothers, Carl Johnson Jr. and Edward Johnson; and sisters, Shirley Halvorson, Joan Graveline and Joanne Johnson.
Funeral services will be: Friday, April 11, at 2 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Rolla, with Pastor Mark Kolbo officiating.
Burial will be: in the Rolla City Cemetery, Rolla.
A visitation will be held: Thursday, April 10, from 3 to 8 p.m., at Elick Funeral Home, Rolla, with a prayer service at 5:30 p.m.
