Fire burns grass along West Burdick

A grass fire burned along West Burdick Expressway in the area of the 16th Street Southwest intersection Wednesday afternoon.

The fire started near the Burdick Expressway entrance to Minot High School – Magic City Campus and continued for several blocks to the west before it was put down by Minot firefighters.

The fire was called in to Minot Central Dispatch around 1:15 p.m. and, according to unofficial police reports, dispatch called BNSF Railway to halt train traffic through the affected area.

Four Minot Fire Department units were deployed, including two fire engines and two rescue trucks. Firefighters used 500 gallons of water and several “grass paddles” and had the fire out in about a half-hour, according to fireman Tim Beach.
