Walter Hordinsky, 74, of Minneapolis, passed away on Palm Sunday, April 13, 2014, after a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Lviv, Ukraine, on Nov. 1, 1939. His parents, Dr. Bohdan and Irene (Tysowsky) Hordinsky, emigrated to the United States in 1947 and eventually settled the family in Drake, where Walter worked for many years as a coder in his father’s clinic. Walter was well-known for his prodigious memory, particularly focused on his favorite subjects of books, films, and family histories.
The family wishes to acknowledge Walter in a beautiful script written by his niece, Kristina, on the day Walter passed away: There are people in this world who only help you see the good in all circumstances, and that was you, Uncle Walter. I hope you are now in a better place, away from the pain that was consuming you. I have never known someone so strong and caring, and will forever miss the “hello princess” and “hello Christie” every time I return home from school. You were a light in this world and I will be sure to emulate your caring nature in order to make this world a happier and more welcoming place. I am so thankful for the two months we had together this past winter because no matter how hard it was to see the cancer consume you, I got to know the Walter everyone loves. May you rest in peace and may God care for you on this Palm Sunday and forever.
Walter is survived by his mother, Irene; sister Maria and her husband, Robert (Bohdan) Kramarczuk; niece Irene Mannering with husband, Nick, and children Laryssa and Isaac, of Irvine, Calif.; niece Catherine Voulgarides with husband Anthony and daughter Cielle, of New York City; nephew Alexander Kramarczuk; niece Kristina Kramarczuk; sister-in-law Martha Hordinsky, of Oklahoma City; nieces Alexis Hamilton, Natalie Hamilton, and Audrey Hamilton, of Houston, Texas; aunt-in-law Stefania Tysowsky and daughter Ulana Stepchuk and family; Bianca Seabold with husband Jim and children Drew and Cayden, of St. Paul, Minn.; Stefan Kramarczuk with wife Dana and children Aria and Lucas, of Bloomington, Minn.; Adrian Kramarczuk and children Chloe and Adrian Jr., of Aitken, Minn.; his cousins and their families: Olenka Yurchuk and Ksenia Hapij, of New Jersey; George Tysowsky and Anna Rybak, of New York; Lada Caillat, of Paris, France; Laryssa Toliver, of Massachusetts; and a host of other relatives.
