An honor to host Ryan team

Ralph and Darlene Jose, Fargo

Wow, what an exciting and climatic finish for the Minot Bishop Ryan Lions girls’ basketball team at the 2014 N.D. Girls’ Class B State Tournament held at the Fargo Dome with an impressive undefeated season and capturing another state title! Congratulations!

We went into retirement as team hosts after last season (2013), however we continued to follow their playing season with great interest. We promised the girls that we would come out of retirement, if they made it to state again silly of us to even think of making such a statement. When tournament time was approaching, we were asked by the local Metro Tournament Committee if we would be interested in being team hosts again. We responded affirmatively and said, “We want Bishop Ryan.”

As team hosts, we had the pleasure of being first-hand observers of the team and coaches. Again, we observed good sportsmanship and courtesy by the team during the games, at the restaurants and while we were with the team. The restaurant, Noodles & Company, commented that it was a pleasure to serve these young women. We also wish to recognize the outstanding support of the parents, grandparents and wonderful fans.

Bishop Ryan High School and the city of Minot can be proud of this basketball team. Coach Julie Stewart, assistant coaches Heather Lizotte, April Nakatani and Cody Mueller, athletic director Bryan Kramer, the Rev. Jadyn Nelson, school administration, team trainer, statisticians, student managers and bus driver, Tom Rovig.

Thank you again for having us as your team hosts. We wish the graduating seniors our very best with your careers and the returning players much success next season. Go Lady Lions!
