The art of Jane Kalmbach of Dakota Blessings Art Studio, Kenmare, will be on display at the Minot Public Library gallery through Wednesday. Pastel dog portraits, mixed media paintings, new Zentangle creations and acrylics will be on display.

Minot State University’s Northwest Art Center will host an opening reception for the Juried Student Art Show Friday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Hartnett Hall Gallery. Juror Jim Park, Moorhead, Minn., will present awards at 7 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public, and parking is unrestricted. The exhibit runs through May 8.

The Minot Area Council of the Arts will host its annual meeting of the membership at the Taube Museum of Art on Tuesday, April 29, at 7 p.m. Ken Kitzman, president of the Minot Area Community Foundation, is the featured speaker. The Taube Museum of Art will host a “Painting Techniques Class” on Thursday, May 1, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required. The class is open to adults 21 years old and up. Fee is $20. Previous “Paint the Town Red” participants receive 25 percent off. Also, the Taube has created a new monthly art class, “Art All Around,” geared towards children 9 years and older. Classes, which are 1 1/2 hours, will include printmaking, repousse, acrylic painting and watercolors. Each monthly session is $18 per child, which includes all the supplies needed to create their masterpiece. The last class will be May 8 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Class size is limited for a more individualized instruction, so early registration is advised. “A Trip Around the World,” featuring works from Grand Forks native John Postovit, will be on display at the Taube Museum of Art, 2 N. Main St., from May 6 through June 6. The Taube’s Museum and Gift Shop hours are Tuesdays through Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturdays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., or by special appointment. There is no charge for admission, but contributions are accepted to help the Taube fulfill its mission of enriching lives through the visual arts. An opening reception for “Through the Dust-Colors of the West,” an exhibition of oil paintings by Trish Stevenson reflecting the vivid colors of the West and capturing the spirit of contemporary western lifestyle, will be held at the James Memorial Art Center in Williston on May 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit runs from May 1-31.
