SVUW awards more than $380,000 to area programs
Souris Valley United Way announced recently that 28 local programs would receive grants totaling more than $380,000. Each grant directly addresses the areas of education, financial stability and health. Grant recipients were recognized on April 25.
“SVUW continues to support local programs which make a difference in our community,” said Megan Grundstrom, SVUW board president. “United Way enlists the help of the Community Building Committee to ensure your donations will make a difference in our area.”
“Though campaign pledges were down this year by 8.3 percent, SVUW only had to reduce this year’s overall grant awards from the prior year by 2.6 percent,” said Patricia Smith, executive director. “We know there is a growing need for United Way funds, since total grant requests continue to be more than dollars raised, which demonstrates the needs of the community continue to grow.”
Some of the local programs receiving funds include the American Red Cross, Community Action Partnership, Domestic Violence Crisis Center, Minot Area Homeless Coalition, Minot Commission on Aging and Village Family Service Center.
