Former MSU football player Ili convicted of lesser charge

A jury has convicted former Minot State University football player Jesse Ili of assault, a Class A misdemeanor, rather than aggravated assault, a Class C felony, which was his primary charge.

He was found guilty Friday of two other Class C felonies, for simple assault on a peace officer and preventing arrest or discharge of other duties. He was found not guilty of ingesting a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor, but was found guilty of two Class B misdemeanors of refusing to halt and possession of marijuana.

He is being held in the Ward County Jail pending the results of a pre-sentencing investigation.
