Rolla residents must boil water before using

ROLLA Residents of Rolla are being asked to boil the water before using it because disease-causing organisms may have entered the city’s water supply.

City officials recently learned about the potential imminent health risks to the city’s water supply due to loss of pressure to the water tower and distribution system.

According to a fact sheet, residents must bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute and let it cool before using. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that may be in the water. Only bottled water should be used for preparing infant formula. Boiled water, bottled water or water from another approved source should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation.

The city is monitoring the condition of the distribution system and will perform monitoring to determine when the situation has been resolved. Rolla residents will be informed when they no longer need to boil the water.
